The perfect choice for any sunflower lover, this mixture contains five different sunflower varieties for a blaze of bright sunflower beauty in the summer garden or meadow. We’ve included five of the most popular sunflowers in the cut flower trade, varieties that are a little shorter and stand tall in the garden throughout the season. Like all sunflowers, this mixture will attract a lovely menagerie of pollinators and provide blooms all summer long. All of the seed we handle at American Meadows is non-GMO, neonicotinoid-free and guaranteed to grow. Annual.

5 popular varieties of annual sunflower, Helianthus annuus:

  • Sunflower "Black Oil", gives you big golden flowers at 6 to 8'. (A bird seed favorite.)
  • Sunflower "Lemon Queen", 4 to 5" flowers in luscious lemon yellow, brown centers.
  • Sunflower "Dwarf Sungold", shorter variety with classic gold flowers
  • Sunflower "Dwarf Sunspot", shorter variety with double blooms
  • Wild Sunflower, the Kansas State Flower, like a large black-eyed susan, growing only about 4-5 ft. tall.

This mix is a sunflower lover's dream. Five carefully chosen varieties give you all the glory of North America's own "Flower of the Sun", with none of the problems. For example, the garden giants, growing up to 10 ft., often with ragged leaves, are not included here. Instead, these five are some of the most popular sunflowers now in the cut flower trade--the ones that stand straight, not too tall, and form perfect flowers that are great for cutting. Imagine the big beautiful arrangements you'll be able to make with all these colors and flower forms. If you like sunflowers, just find a sunny spot, and plant this mixture. You'll love it.

          USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

          • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
          • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
