I live on an impaired lake and asked for help planting a buffer zone(shoreline restoration) from Mike at customer service. He set me up with the appropriate mixes both annual and perennial's.The results were amazing the first year. The Mn. pollution agency came out after I had written an article on my succes and added photos, and they did an interview and video for there agency website. I could not be more pleased and am excited for spring to see it grow again.

I started my fourth wildflower garden this year. I prepared it in fall of 2010. I added California Poppy and Cosmos mix to it. It was wonderful this year! The only drawback was too many sunflowers came up we tore out about 1/3 of them, but the bed was overwhelmed by sunflowers. I would suggest less sunflower seeds in the mix. Overall, I was once again satisfied.

Comments about American Meadows Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I purchased these because I have an eroded slope on which little will grow and I don't want high maintenance. These wildflowers grew well, in profusion, all over that slope. They have lasted into the Autumn and I still have pleasure looking at them. They do not do well in partial shade. They definitely need the sun. The deer love to frolic among the blooms and this makes a pretty sight to behold but they do eat some of them. Yet, they seem to survive just fine. I got a lot of cut flowers out of this mix. The bees and butterflies loved them. I am planning on planting more of these because i would like to see the annuals again year after year. I will plant the partial shade mix for the shadier areas next time. I am thinking of extending my wildflower areas quite a lot and this was my first year trying them. I will probably need some deer resistant mix as well to keep things going, and well covered.

Zone 4, didn't plant until May 25th and still had wonderful results! A large variety of flowers, colors, and heights. The Dragonflies found our in-town meadow first, then the Bumbles, then the Butterflies, and even a couple Hummingbirds! It has been so much fun watching all the activity and the daily changes to our new "meadow" (10' x 35' area of our back yard).

I roto tilled up part of my lawn 30ft by 20ft planted it the end of March couldn't be happier. I had flowers from April till now 7ft Cosmos blooming right now. I suggest to work up the soil well one time over a yard isn't good enough 3 or 4 times over a week then plant the seeds you should have a beautiful wild flower garden. If it's dry water the area till they get established can't see why you can't have a beautiful garden. Plan on planting more next year can' wait also I'm getting a bee hive to help out the reseeding.

They have grown prolifically and love the orange and yellow flowers. Hope next year surprises us with more colors but am happy this way also! Also love the no mainence aspect of the wild flowers.

We have been trying to salvage a wildflower area planted in a public area that had become very weedy and having limited success with other seed sources. American Meadows midwest wildfower mix came very quickly after ordered and we were amazed how well it germinated after simply broadcasting the seed. We have several beautiful blooms of yellow, white, purple, and more!

Would like to have more perennials in mix. What was a rather drab area surrounded by large Spruce is now a very colorful, butterfly attracting area

I have rather large area in the back of my lawn that has been left to grow natural over the past decade or so. This year, I decided it would be nice to have wild flowers growing in this area. I moved the area after the frost last winter and rented a roto-tiller to break up the soil and existing weeds. I moistened the soil and spread the seeds somewhat evenly. To my disappointment, the old weeds had a firm grip on the area and over grew the area. You can barely see signs of the wildflowers. I must admit that I think is a result of operator error. I purchased more seeds and plan on trying it again next year. Hopefully I have better results.

Comments about American Meadows Midwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I have order this product many times over the past 3 years in addition to product replacement due to low success rate.

The company has been very understanding about replacing the product when it just doesn't work well, but truthfully, I have only had one really great successful planting the initial year. The subsequent plantings have been fall and spring and I don't recommend the fall planting at all as that never developed any noticeable results. (And yes I scattered the seed onto dry soil after a couple of good frosts and I actually got them out there about 1 week before the first snow that stayed all winter.)

My planting area is about 35 feet wide and 200 feet long on a hillside. The first initial planting was following a full RoundUp eradication and that produced the best visible results with lots of blooms. I added more seed that fall and the following spring, only to result in decreased blooms. Same effect the following years to where this year is a very disappointing display for the effort and investment.

The reduced number of wild flowers each year has permitted some weeds to now begin to dominate in certain sections. The wildflowers seem challenged to sustain themselves in this area.

We have partial shade due to trees on the hillside. (Close to 60 sun/40 shade, but the sun is very hot as the area is very sheltered from wind.) I would only recommend this mixture if your planting is a wide-open area.

I was so excited when I saw a Midwest wildflower mix available on your site that I bought it immediately. Sadly, it has not lived up to expectations save for about 5 sunflower plants and a couple zinnias that are doing alright. Everything else either has not germinated or shriveled up and died. Honestly, I had better luck with the wildflower mix I purchased from a big box store the year before for a lot less. Very disappointed; will not repurchase.

I ordered the Midwest Wildflower mix to cover a large area...over 1200 sqft. I planted about 2.5 weeks ago. I followed the video prep instructions which were very helpful. I also called with some questions and the cust service folks were equaly helpful. My planning area just a few years ago with overrun with buckthorn. I cleared most of the area and prepped with tiller for the wildflower seed. The area gets full sun in the morning and mixed sun/shade in PM. As you can see from the pictures the planning is coming along nicely. The large leafy things coming up are weeds I need to pull but the green cover you see is largely the wildflower seed coming up. Very pleased so far.

Three springs ago I planted these behind our split rail fence. The look was beautiful. The next spring I added more seeds but we had no luck. Nothing came up. I blame it on the drought that summer. Then last spring we were planning a wedding reception in our backyard & I wanted that original look so I planted $60 worth of wildflower seeds including poppies. It looked like we had about 3 in. growth when the landscape company we hired (this one time) came and sprayed broadleaf killer on my plants! Only 2 varieties survived. Now I am starting over and spending more in hopes it will work this time. I have no idea if they will come up the second year as we did not have a successful second year after the first summer but I'm hoping it was because of the drought.

I used the mix for a low-maintenance wildflower border for part of my backyard. I was impressed by how successful this seed mix was. I got very dense growth and a good diversity of flowers from the mix. Some from the list didn't seem to appear, but I am looking forward to seeing what comes up next year.

We had a wet, cold spring followed by a summer drought. The seeds came up later than usual (and I'm sure some washed away) because of the rainy weather. They soon were going strong, and I have a beautiful color display of pinks, yellows, oranges and purples - some as much as 6 ft tall. In fact, one of my birdfeeders is nearly invisible in the blooms.

We used the midwest wildflower mix to put a perimeter around our 3 acre lot. Seeded May 1 and had blooms starting about July 1. It is now Oct 19 and the cosmos, bachelor button, red flax, and coreopsis are still blooming. And as we drive through the neighborhood, we have the ONLY flowers still blooming. Wonderful seed mix, and I think every seed grew. Can't wait until next year when the perennials start to bloom. Not only would I recommend this to a friend, I have recommended it to ALL my friends.
