The flowers are beautiful and blooming is long.
I planted these seeds last year and the flower came back as expected.

We have a pretty steady supply of deer munching through our yard on a regular basis, so when I decided I wanted a wildflower meadow on our hillside where it had just been dug up for a drain line, I knew I needed to do some research. I was very excited to find these deer-resistant wildflower seeds and really hoped it would do the trick. Well, I ordered 1/2 lb. of the seeds and received them about two weeks later, planted them early summer and watered them daily because of the unusually hot weather. The seeds began to sprout quickly and I was impressed to see a hillside of green seedlings within a few weeks (mostly zinnias). The deer seemed to leave them alone at first and I was very pleased. But then whole patches of plants began to disappear overnight, and then the leaves began to disappear off of the remaining plants. After a few days the deer became bold and started snacking on their new favorite dessert (go figure) midday. Needless to say, I now have a completely bare hillside and I couldn't be more disappointed. Thankfully, I saved some seeds in the bag in case the first planting didn't come up. I will try sowing the rest of the seeds in the winter or early spring and hope the plants can get established before the deer go on their summer feeding-frenzy.
In conclusion; I really liked the quality of these seeds and the beautiful packaging they arrived in. I was impressed with the easy care and the beautiful few blooms I got before the plants disappeared. I just wish these darn whitetail deer didn't like them so much!

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

I purchased these seeds last year with No luck.
We prepared the ground and added top soil.
All that came up were the starter Zinnias.
When I contacted the Company they said it's not unusual,
Wait until Next year and I would see results.
Well, it's next year, and I have maybe a dozen flowers total!
This was a total waste of time and money.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

This mix was fantastic for filling in a large space. It came up well, the deer didn't really get to them and I probably have 1,000 Zinnias. I would have liked more variety of other flowers. I only had 3 other types come up so it didn't live up to it's mix rate. Still love the Zinnias and my neighbors are raving about the number of flowers.

The Deer Resistant wildflower mix, planted this Spring, surprised me with the vivid colors of the annuals. To my great joy, these colors attracted many hummingbirds and butterflies. If the perennials next summer repeat the Annuals display, I will consider myself very lucky to have found your Company, and I will buy more seed to cover a 100 x 20 foot hill next Spring. Thank you for an awesome flower collection.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

Broadcast seeds germinated well and are truly draught resistant. Year two, and the first of the perennials are up and in bloom. I planted draught tolerant, deer resistant wildflowers instead of a regular lawn because I live in a dessert with a property line shared with thousands of acres of BLM land and want color while retaining the open, wilderness appearance.

Images of emerging plants from American Meadows would be helpful in differentiating between newly sprouting perennials and sprouting weeds in springtime.

I planted a 5000 foot meadow in semi- shade and this mix is doing great this the first year. Annuals continue to bloom and I can see the perennials are well established for next year.
Super-abundant deer have only nibbled a few individual plants. I'm able to easily manage the invasive non-natives that were already established here.
A meadow like this can't be judged by one year alone. Can't wait for next year!
                    Great value.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

My husband and I recently had a retaining wall built around a tall, eroding bank that is composed mostly of shale rock. The contractor used the loose shale to fill in behind the wall. I wanted a natural look, and chose the deer resistant wildflower mix. I really thought nothing would grow in the shale bed, which had very little soil among the rocks and shale. We followed directions, and watered them often until the plants were appx six inches tall. We are extremely happy with the show of continuous blooms we are still enjoying. Added bonus - the deer (which are a nuisance here) have not touched them! We plan to plant more of the same mix next year. We are very happy with the product!

We live on a treed lot. But the backyard gets sun around the perimeter all day. I followed directions and watered. Once they started sprouting. I water every third day. Now all we have is green/no flowers at all. Next time I am going to save my money that we paid for 5lb an just try the ones at local stores.

We used the wild flower mix in a 2 acre pasture. The deer have avoided the area. This year the annual seeds bloomed, I can not wait to see the perennials blooms next year!

Could not get this large area cleared before July. Spread deer resistant wildflower seed mid July with no expectations that it would make much of a statement in a short growing time. It is now Oct. and there is great coverage especially on steep slopes beside driveway. Great fragrance and no sign of eating critters. We are in a dense deer population area of Michigan.

I ordered the deer resistant mix supposed to be 17 annuals and perennials. What I received was all annuals four o clocks, zinnia, and marigold. None of which is supposed to even be in the mix.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

I bought 2 of these wild flower seeds - 1 for myself nd one for my grandchildren. Mine have been growing for a couple of months and have filled in a bed that was once nothing but weeds! I couldn't be happier. My grandchildren had to wait for Spring to plant theirs, they live in the East. It was a great gift to give them and they were very excited to recieve them and eager to spread them and watch them grow.

Annuals were beautiful and plentiful (bachelor buttons, sweet alyssum, California poppy, marigolds). Either did not receive or did not grow some of listed perennials. There were substitions of annuals, but they were beautiful. I will be ordering again.

So far so good despite planting in the worst drought year in a long time. As such, requires daily 20 minute sprinkler sessions in a fairly shaded setting. My biggest complaints about the product - descriptions not very specific about light requirements and sure wish American Meadows would provide pictures of different growing stages so we would know what to expect - an awful lot of the early plants look like weeds to me - but have hung on and are getting many beautiful blooms now.

Part of a 1 acre conversion and they have been wonderful! I at first wondered if I had needed to really have deer resistant plants, but soon as I saw my other wildflowers getting de-flowered by the deer I realized these were my safety net.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

Naturalized planting of large area with aspens, wisteria and cork-screw willow. It doesn't get any easier to plant a large area. Tilled the soil, raked, broadcast seed, watered and watched it grow and bloom. When the temperature hit the high nineties, I did need to water every other day.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

I live next door to a lady that feed the deer. Nevertheless, I have anywhere from 5 to 30 deer in my yard almost always. I wanted to plant wildflowers that the deer would not eat. These flowers were not only beautiful the deer totally ignored them. I believe that I had an average of 80% of my seeds germinate and it is only early spring. I received a great variety and mix. I cannot wait until they are in full bloom in a few weeks. The only disadvantage is dealing with planting wildflower seeds in the wind and cold. I love all my purchases from AM.

Comments about American Meadows Deer Resistant Wildflower Seed Mix:

This mix gave me so much more than what I expected! I think every single seed germinated!!! The zinnias were the stars the first year providing a constant supply for cuttings, as well as attracting bees and butterflies. The garden had a lovely wild look to it, and I would plant these seeds again, but I don't have to!!! Because they'll all come back with me doing practically nothing! I'm looking forward to seeing which plants are the stars this year. Love the surprise factor and anticipation!!!

This was a good mix and kept the deer out. I enjoyed the flowers and the deer still came around in other parts of the field.

                                                Q & A

                                                Plant With These:

                                                USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                                • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                                • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
