Like its relative, Baby Blue Eyes, N. menziesii, Five Spot is so short, it is best appreciated in areas of a meadow where taller flowers don’t hide it.

Cons

    • Sidewalk Buffer

Comments about American Meadows Five Spot Seeds:

Broadcast the five eyes in the sidewalk buffer strip for an accent to our Krauter Vesuvius flowering plum. Our new neighbors decided to put in their own lawn. They forgot the water on all night and completely flooded the sidewalk strip. Figured the five eyes were history, but a few weeks later, we had clusters of flowers in strange, strategic spots. All the passers-by commented that they had never seen five-eyes before and they all liked it.

Comments about American Meadows Five Spot Seeds:

cute little flowers are quite hardy although they appear delicate. Although the description suggests high water needs, this is not the case. I live in the arid mountains of UT at nearly 8000 ft and they came in nicely in our beds. They came in one of AM great seed mixes and we were delighted when these cute little cups emerged I came hunting for the variety in the website.

A couple of notes - these have not done well in areas where there is a lot of competition from other plants. Although the foliage has emerged in many areas, these have bloomed best in prepared areas of loose soil that receives shade all morning. We have a sandy loam with quite a bit of organic matter and will be buying more of these cuties!

Comments about American Meadows Five Spot Seeds:

Love the idea of these in the lawn, but these yielded very few blooms that I could see. I spread liberally in April and again in May in a lawn with bald spots where I expected these to flourish. About 3 to 6 hours of sun per day depending on the spot.

          USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

          • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
          • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
