Morning Glories are fast-growing, vigorous climbing vines with heart-shaped leaves and profuse, brightly colored blooms. Grandpa Ott produces striking deep purple, funnel-shaped flowers with magenta stars in the throats.

Provide a sturdy trellis, pergola or other support for the vines, which get large -- and heavy -- by the middle of the summer. Vines grow up to 15' tall.

Morning glories have tough seed coats. To speed up the germination process, soak seeds in warm water for several hours before planting.

Comments about American Meadows Morning Glory Seeds Grandpa Ott:

This variety almost took over my back yard, but much of my back yard was bare and sort of ugly when I moved in.

It not only survived in my starved clay dirt, it THRIVED. Made for beautiful pictures in the morning and did a lovely job blocking light in a window and on the fence with lovely purple flowers.

    USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

    • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
    • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
