What's in this Mix?

Our own Tulip Topper Mixture keeps your bulb beds in bloom all summer.

We invented this garden of flower seeds, which is simply a special mix made to scatter over tulips and daffodil bulbs, either after you plant them in the fall, or as they come up in spring. You'll enjoy 12 quick-growing, quick-blooming flowers. (See Flower List below.) It's easy! Here's how it works:

  1. 1. FALL OR SPRING: Plant the seeds. Once your bulbs are planted in fall (or when they're coming up in spring), simply scatter the seed mix over your bulb bed.
  2. 2. SPRING: Bulbs bloom while seeds sprout. While you enjoy your bulb flowers, your "Tulip Topper" seeds will sprout and create a lush green carpet at ground level.
  3. 3. LATE SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL: Bulb flowers fade. Seed begins bloom. By the time your bulb flowers fade, the seedlings have grown up enough to cover the dying-back bulb foliage. (No cleanup!) And very soon after the last bulb flower is gone, the seedlings begin bloom, and don't stop until fall frost!

Comments about American Meadows Tulip Topper Wildflower Seed Mix:

Planted the Tulip Topper mix in early Spring over my tulip bed. I knew it wasn't the ideal conditions and late to plant, but still was pleasantly surprised! Turned out to be only part sun and my hydrangeas (that were bare when I planted) filled-out and covered the area more than I thought. Still, the flowers grew long stems to seek the sun & are still blooming. If I planted this in full sun or away from the shrubs, it would have been breathtaking!

Comments about American Meadows Tulip Topper Wildflower Seed Mix:

I applied this mix to my tulip/daffodil bed and many sprouts appeared. Unfortunately, late frost killed all the sprouts and they had no chance to become flowers.

Comments about American Meadows Tulip Topper Wildflower Seed Mix:

I grew this in three small patches, and it came up in all three.. One, sowed over a weed mat came up, then disappeared. I do not blame anyone but myself, so don't make the same mistake. Sadly two of the three areas are now covered in pine straw, but hopefully it will not effect growth.

          Tulip Topper mix is tops!

Comments about American Meadows Tulip Topper Wildflower Seed Mix:

We've been very pleased overall with the outcome of this packet of seeds. Our soil leaves a lot to be desired, but these seeds didn't seem to care and came up anyway, in spite of the less-than-ideal growing conditions. They performed far better than the more expensive seeds that I tried. It's August, and the poppies, the scarlet flax, the bachelor's buttons, the coreopsis, are all still going strong.

            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
