Description
With shiny green stems and ball-shaped brown buds, these airy plants are one of the major colormakers in any meadow in any region. The clusters of bi-colored golden flowers with mahogany centers literally “light up” a meadow, and have a long blooming season. They’re also great for cutting. This is a plains species, but is very widespread. It is called “calliopsis” in the South, where it is enjoyed right down into Florida. In fact, the coreopsis was recently designated as the official State Wildflower of Florida.

Comments about American Meadows Plains Coreopsis Seeds:

I was hoping to have this blooming all over a wild slope, however we had a really cold wet Spring and nothing came up like it would have in my dirt in Milwaukee. Most of our yard here is rocky with a little soil. I should have planted them in the fall but we got 10 inches of snow the last day of Oct and I didn't get them in. I will keep trying!!! They came up along our gravel drive way and other tough places as well as some nicer places which tell me they are versatile. Am letting them go to seed this year as I am with all my flowers that didn't do well.

Comments about American Meadows Plains Coreopsis Seeds:

I sowed two rounds of this, once in the winter, and once in late summer. Both had great results, as I'm currently enjoying them as filler until my perennials pop up, next year. Very dainty, twiggy shoots abound my garden. Once they die, they're a pain in the butt to clean up after, but nothing too bothersome. They are currently making a nice splash of color for the fall as they mask the dried remains of other annual wildflowers on their way out. Totally recommend for anyone. I didn't even have to touch them; they did their thing on their own... Like wildflowers should do.

I garden in the mountains and have some bank areas in full sun - with clay soil. Great native to cover problem areas and help with erosion control also. A real inexpensive winner! Love them.

I bought this mix because it was drought resistant and pretty. Unfortunately, I had a problem with ants carrying off the seeds. Next year I will cover the seeds so this doesn't happen. The ones that escaped the ants did great.

Comments about American Meadows Plains Coreopsis Seeds:

Unrivaled longlasting summer colour, the only fault with these tall beauties is their penchant for shallow sowing on my slope. They tend to fall then bend upwards like delpheniums which can fracture their somewhat brittle base stems. They do much better for me if I brace them with some extra garden clay or minor staking. The sea of blooms makes the extra effort well worth it

                  Plains Coreopsis Seeds (Coreopsis tinctoria)

A friend gave me these plants grown from American Meadows seeds. While not hardy... they became absolutely beautiful in a variety of light (half shade to full sun) and the bright yellow could be seen a block away. Disease resistent/free... blooms well without dead heading... long blooming season... a terrific plant.
