Description
Like perennial blue flax, annual scarlet flax seed is shiny, a clue to the fact that flax seed is used to produce linseed oil. This species, with brilliant red petals often edged in black, is a close relative of the flax used to produce linen. (Note both “linen” and “linseed” derive from botanical name, Linum.) See related species, Blue Flax, Linum perenne lewisii.

Had high hopes for these - but does not appear that any of them germinated (they were in a mix I created), and if they did they did not bloom. Disappointing

other seeds that I ordered at this time were wonderful, but the scarlet flax failed to perform, in fact they failed to sprout for me!

Comments about American Meadows Scarlet Flax Seeds:

This was my first try with these flowers. Were a little difficult to get started~seemed to need a lot of watering. The ones that have made it (we've had an exceptionally hot, dry summer here) have beautiful, almost shocking scarlet/red blooms. The blooms are very small and don't last for very long, but they are quite beautiful!

Comments about American Meadows Scarlet Flax Seeds:

This is a beautiful flower that looks more delicate than it is. It would be stunning in a mass planting, which is my plan for next season. Intense, delicate red blooms sway in the breeze.
