The Pollinator Partnership's mission is to promote the health of pollinators, critical to food and ecosystems, through conservation, education and research. Signature initiatives include the NAPPC (North American Pollinator Protection Campaign), National Pollinator Week, and the Ecoregional Planting Guides.

Pollinator Partnership

The Million Pollinator Garden Challenge (MPGC) is a nationwide call to action to preserve and create gardens and landscapes that help revive the health of bees, butterflies, birds, bats and other pollinators across America. We will move millions of individuals, kids and families outdoors and make a connection between pollinators and the healthy food people eat.

What's in this Mix?

Have you heard? Many honey bees, our plants' life-giving pollinators, seem to be disappearing! In fact, about 1/3 of our honey bees nationwide have disappeared in just the last few years. Scientists have been concerned about this for some time, but recently the problem seems to be increasing, and it is developing into a real environmental crisis. After all, the bees pollinate almost all our food crops and flowers, so without them, plants can't form seed and propagate themselves!
Read all about the Honey Bee crisis here.

That's why we've created this special mixture you can plant to be part of the solution. It's packed with honey bee friendly long-blooming flowers and super-colorful quick-bloom flowers to make the bees work a little easier, and to reduce stress on our already-stressed hives.

This mixture contains 19 wildflowers, 12 annuals for first-year color, plus 7 perennials for second and successive years' bloom. See full flower list below.

Provides Honeybees and other pollinators with nectar and pollen from a variety of sources that are not naturally available in the Tulsa area anymore. I wish that more people would plant these nice unmodified varieties of seed instead of the hybrid nursey type plants that, while beautiful, produce little, if any nectar or pollen to help our environment and a diversity of natural pollenators. It is nice to have all this yellow clover in the mix. I will order a larger quantity next year. Decent honey crop so far this year.

These wildflower seeds are very attractive and bring in LOTS of pollinators BUT very few honey bees. The primary purpose I purchased these was for honey bee forage. Most if not nearly all of the flowers in this seed package are NOT honey bee friendly due to the anatomy of the flowers. The honey bee proboscis (tongue)can reach at most and 1/8th inch. The majority of the flowers in this mix are not compatible with honey bee physiology in that respect. Honey bees require flower species with small blooms that allow the honey bee to reach the plant nectar such as yellow sweet clover, Sainfoin, buckwheat, canola seed, mountain mint, crimson clover, Rocky Mountain Bee Plant, goldenrod, etc. Cone flowers, black eye susans, some of the poppies, and other similar type flowers have little nectar value to honey bees although they will gather the pollen.

If you want Bumble bees, Carpenter bees, mason bees, butterflies, moths, and some hummingbirds, this seed mix works VERY well and has a VERY pleasing to the eye variety of flowers and is a good buy for the money. It is just not primarily for honey bees.

A dedicated separate honey bee seed mix containing wildflowers honey bees can actually forage for nectar and pollen would be a huge value to honey beekeepers.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

Bought 2 pounds of seeds to plant on our farm. We hardly had rain, for a few months so was really concerned. The flowers stared to bloom and I thought wow, went out to the area a few weeks later and Wow, went out to check them the beginning of fall and WOW the field looks like spring and that was after a light frost, they are still blooming. Absolutely gorgeous! Extremely happy with our purchases and will be purchasing again in the spring 2017

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

A very colorful, low-maintenance mix that attracted hordes of bees, birds, butterflies and other pollinators. Was very easy to seed, I only turned over the first few inches of soil with minimal amendment and everything still came up quickly and seemed to drown out the weeds. I even planted later in the year, in summer, and everything still came up in time to have several months of blooms.

One thing to note is that some of the sunflowers get TALL. it says in the description 24-72 inches; mine grew well above that. They wound up leaning across our lawn and over the neighbor's fence--I had to cur them back aggressively a couple times so they don't get covered with shed petals, bird droppings and flowerheads that the squirrels had pulled apart. Not a problem if planted in an open setting, but in a smaller urban bed, they can be troublesome.

I still have a great looking bunch of flowers, though, and look forward to see the perennials coming up next year!

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

We put borders around our vegetable gardens to attract beneficial insects and they look beautiful. We also keep bees, so the flowers have been a plus for them as well. There was a second blooming which is still going strong (in mid-October). This is the first time I have been able to grow wildflowers after attempting for about 3 years, so I am thrilled.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

We put this mix in a 12x6 bed during the summer, so I think we weren't able to grow a lot of the varieties due to the heat. We also mixed this 1/4 lb bag with another of the Beneficial Bug Wildflowers, so I'm not sure what came up the most. Next time I won't plant so many seeds. and I'll also plant much earlier in the year, like February. We had a stunning show for a while, but now they're dying off as it's nearing winter.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

I scattered one pound of seed mixture in early spring when the ground was still wet. There was a cover of decayed leaves from the fall. Rather than try to rough the surface more and then scatter the seed mixture I depended on germination to occur like nature would drop seed in the fall and then germinate again in the spring. It didn't work. I got absolutely zero plants to germinate and bloom.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

There is no species list on the bag, so you have to print the list from the website if you want a species list. There are also seeds in the mix not listed on the contents. They seem to attract bees, but can be invasive or aggressively spread by abundant seeds. There is a poppy, a cynoglossum, and what appears to be a salvia species. Each are prolific seed-producers. The cynoglossum produces abundant small velcro-type sticky seeds that stick to clothing and the hair on your arms and anything else. They got into the laundry basket so now I have these hard, sticky seeds twisted and stuck in my clothes.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

I bought this product specifically to make "seed bomb" wedding favors, with the added bonus of helping honey bees. The seeds worked great for making the seed bombs, and aside from actually looking like a heart shaped tasty treat when they were done, they really hit the mark. My guest came from all over the US, and those people that actually planted the seed cake, as opposed to chucking them from a moving car window because they thought it was a cookie. (Whoops, my bad. Note to self: don't give cookie sized dirt cakes to drunk guest without labeling VERY prominently their proper use.) Anyway, great growing revues from everyone, and my personal experience was stellar as well. They required no maintenance. I threw the extra seeds in tilled soil as well as a distress lot, and I actually think they did better on the distressed dirt. It took a little time to see first growth; I would say a week or two, but it was a very hot dry summer and I did not water or help the seeds in any way. All and all I give the product, "2 thumbs up" and I have noticed many flying insects loving the blooms.

Lots of blooms. Seeds were viable and germinated well. Very successful. Watered everyday here in Central GA. We have had lttle rain in spring and early to mid summer.

I planted 3/4 acre last spring. Despite no rain for a long period after planting, the flowers did great. Results better than I expected. I have several bee hives on my property and the bees were all over the flowers.

Bought this for my father (in Zone 8) as he says he never sees bees anymore. He tossed a bit of this seed mix near his tomato garden and the assorted wildflowers grew easily. He said he saw butterflies and even hummingbirds on them and eventually a big fat honeybee!

THE WILDFLOWERS WILL ATTRACT THE ABOVE MENTIONED CRITTERS TO MY ORCHARD TO POLLINATE THE FRUIT TREES. THE SEEDS WERE SHIPPED IN A BREATHABLE CLOTH BAG THAT CAN BE USED TO STORE THE REMAINDER OF THE UNUSED SEED.

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

Only planted the seeds a few weeks ago (right after the last frost) but I am very excited to see the results. Mixed these in with the Proven NE Wildflower Mix and some Partial Shade seeds, since I thought that would work best for my site. I've been reading a lot over the years about our dwindling Honey Bee population and I'm very excited to see if I can get some attracted to my site. The flowers will be sprouting up not too far from my veggie garden so I'm hoping for some valuable pollination!

Comments about American Meadows Honey Bee Wildflower Seed Mix:

I was so delighted by these seeds I have shared some with neighbors.
We are in a new development & there are places where the woods will remain but the lots have missing trees etc.. I planted seeds the weekend we moved in & last year they were beautiful. I can see this year that they are going to be great because they are already greening up.
I love all your products but this was by far the best investment I made for my new home.
                                            Thank you.

                                            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
