I have an open area next to our personal roadway on the outskirts of the forest. There were wild turkey and deer that would come to visit, but the soil was rocky and it grew mostly weeds and grasses. I started throwing out wild flower seeds and a few came up. The next year my husband used the tractor to rough up the soil, we bought American Meadows wildflower seeds, and last year the area was full of beautiful wildflowers that attracted many birds, butterflies, and honey bees. I bought more seeds to toss out for this spring. Can't wait!

I agree with my nearby Newton,NJ reviewer.Planted total of three pounds-pound on three separate occasions. Fall planting-no growth. Spring planting-minimal response. Third attempt in progress. Possible variables:too little sun; winter storm soil erosion;resemblance to weeds; poor soil quality. Planted as ground cover between hostas and hydrangeas, which was a mistake-looked terrible. Current attempt is in isolated area where only PS seed is planted. Some minor progress-being patient.

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

Where are my wildflowers?

Exactly 2 months ago, I carefully followed the planting instructions for the partial shade wildflower mix. I've been watering the entire area regularly. The seeds spread like wildfire, completely blanketing the area. However, the entire landscape is completely green, with the exception of 3 small flowers that I just notice a few days ago.

I'm disappointed that after 2 months my neighbors think that I planted groundcover.

I tried seeds from another company first and not one flower germinated. The partial shade wildflower mix was spectacular. Lots of colors, long bloom time and zero maintenance. I will order the mix again. It's late October and there are still flowers in bloom in my garden.

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

I was bored with grass and its maintenance. I landscaped my front yard with a beautiful desert tree and plants to compliment the look. After my landscaping ideas in the front and the many compliments I received, I decided I'd plan out the backyard. I visualized a small meadow. I have a Palo Verde tree that shades my yard but wanted wild flowers anyway. I searched the internet and discovered this site. I'm the winner now because I have colorful wild flowers with low maintenance and low water needs. I'm proud to show off my landscaping talent.

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

After tending to my soil quality, I dispersed the seed as directed. Through spring, I had a lovely bloom of small, low-growing annuals. The remainder of growth, which seems spotty, has been echinacea foliage. I do look forward to those, next year. But in truth, I only saw 5 annuals bloom; all of which ceased when summer warmth hit. I won't say I'm disappointed, but I do believe that my conditions will tolerate only a limited variety of what is provided in the seed mix. I've decided to buy only the varieties that did well and to be grateful that I rid myself of most of the grass, Mosquitos, and slugs.

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

I used this seed to bring color into an area that we had cleared out in our front lawn. Years of pine needles had killed off all greenery in the area so we removed them all and tested the soil for acidity. With the "good soil' verdict we spread out our seeds and cared for them according to the package. At the end of the summer we only had green leaves with a couple flowers that grew about 4" tall.
We are hoping that they will come back full force next year, perhaps they just needed the extra time to establish themselves in our soil.
            Here's hoping!

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

After battling with a shady backyard riddled with plants of questionable rapport, I decided to give the entire problem area a facelift.

I simply covered everything (everything) with a layer of newspaper, covered it with organic garden soil, threw seed everywhere, stomped it all in all nice-like, and hoped for the best. In the beginning, it took a lot of watering for what seemed like little to no payoff. Growth was slow, but steady, and I started worrying.

That is, until everything started shooting up like crazy when the soil warmed. First up we're Five Spot and Baby Blue Eyes. Tiny little things that satiated me until the Snapdragons and Chinese houses took off everywhere! Now, I'm patiently waiting the bloom of so many more, and currently unidentifiable, wildflowers.

My small backyard went from zero to hero, birds and squirrels love it, and I've seen less unsavory pests in my yard, since! This is turning out to be a lovely adventure with wildflowers, as the journey brings me a sense of reward (watching them grow) and new color to what was once a troublesome experience.

American Meadows has done it. I keep coming back for more varieties and will continue to do so for a very long time.

That being said, this product is very much a stamp it in and forget it thing and does well in partially shaded areas. I look forward to seeing how many perrenials make it through the winter.

Bought two pounds and put one pound in area with 6 hours of sun - very slow growth. The area has been dry yet I do have an irrigation system and watered every other day for 30 minutes. Apparently not enough. Planted the other pound where there is only 4 hours of sun - no germination. (I did follow the planting instructions to the letter).

Unfortunately, I planted in the middle of a Louisiana Summer. That said, with watering, most of the bed filled in. The flowers were not as concentrated or as brilliant as those grown in full sun. At present, only 4 of the varieties have bloomed. With cooler weather in fall, am hopeful more will bloom.

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

I planted this mix in a large area in my backyard last May and due to an unfortunate miscommunication with our landscaping company, EVERYTHING got pulled up. After I got done cussing out the landscapers, I started over in July, watering diligently, and got a few things to bloom before frost. I also threw a bunch of the seed on top of a mulched area in November "just to see what would happen." This year it's taken off like crazy. I'm seeing a lot of Siberian wallflower, forget-me-nots and dame's rocket, as well as the baby blue eyes and five spot in the shadier areas. This seed mix doesn't really grow in full shade, but if you want to plant it in full shade, it will do better when planted in the fall, along with perhaps some wild tulips or wild crocus (that way the flowers get a little head start before the trees leaf out and shade everything to death).

Comments about American Meadows Partial Shade Wildflower Seed Mix:

I used this mix as a border around a shed and another separate wildflower garden near the forest edge (shadier). I used Roundup to kill the weeds and grass before planting. Germination rate was pretty good even during a dry spring. The growth in the shadier areas was stunted but I am still satisfied with the result. My only complaint would be the presence of mile-a-minute vine seed in the seed mix. Not a big problem though since they are easily pull out.

I needed something along a 60' wall, about 6' deep to prevent weed growth. These wildflowers filled up the area and when winter came, they stayed and began growing again in the spring. A few bloomed, but it was late in the season. I'll see what happens this year.

There are flowers but so small than the ground cover that is around them is taller than the flowers. Sorry to say but I am extremely disatisfied with all the seeds I bought from you.

I live in hot Arizona and planted this early spring in an area that gets some shade but still a lot of sun. I also planted other seed mixes in different areas of my yard. This one came up like gang-busters (whereas the others have not). This mix has produced tons of flowers, especially baby's breath, and baby snapdragons in all sorts of colors. Every day there seems to be something new - poppies, coreopsis...

My only problem is that the African stinkbugs have invaded, eating all of the sweet alyssum, so I am pulling that all out.

Seed appeared to be of very high quality with no filler. It was sown in early June on thoroughly prepared soil in partial sun that we want to establish as a wildflower meadow. As of the end of August we haven't had any germination.

Planted as ground cover between hostas and hydrangeas, which was a mistake-looked terrible. Current attempt is in isolated area where only PS seed is planted. Some minor progress-being patient.

I followed the instructions for fall planting - basically "scatter and stomp" - very easy - and they seem to be vigorously growing in a problem, shady, somewhat amended clay soil. YAAAAAAY!![...]
