Description
No one knows who Susan was, but the flower is linked with “Sweet William” in an old English rhyme. This species was long thought to be native only to our midwest, spreading to both coasts after colonists and western pioneers felled the forests to allow the highly-prolific seed to spread. But recent research proves Black-Eyed Susan was indeed seen as far east as Maryland in early colonial times. There are many species of rudbeckia, many which have been hybridized into some of our most valued garden perennials. For related perennial species, see R. gloriosa.

I saw these growing in another area east of where I live in the city of Palm Springs. When I saw them growing - I had to have some. So I ordered them from American Meadows. This was my first experience. These grew rapidly and were hardy. SO GORGEOUS ! I started plucking them and made flower arrangements (putting them in Ball wide mouth canning jars and tying raffia around the jar) with other wild flowers ordered from American Meadows with a few of my roses. And it was with great pride I made an arrangement and carried it to City Hall and dropped one off for the Mayor's assistant (Palm Springs mayor) I LOVE MY BLACK EYE SUSANS ! THANK YOU AMERICAN MEADOWS !

They have done amazingly well. They were over achievers compared with the rest of the meadow from day 1. Considering I didnt expect any blooms the first year, I've been impressed with how many have bloomed already this year and cant wait to see the big show next year.
