We live at about 3500' in the mountains of San Diego County, a thriving center of 260 people called Sunshine Summit. These seeds seem to thrive well up here even on our meager rainfall 10 to 15" a year. We get snow several times a year, but these seeds always seem to pop up and reseed the next year. In a dry mountain area like ours, it's refreshing to see a riot of color at our place compared to the surrounding area.

I planted the seeds along my driveway. Nice, sunny location. Planted in dirt from compost. Had my neighbor, who can grow anything, make sure I was doing a good job. NOt one see sprouted. Since the dirt was not disturbed, I don't think the seeds were taken by birds. I did not complain at the time, because I am not an accomplished gardener. However, I don't believe I will work with seeds that go directly into the ground again. I think I'd be better off to start the seeds in a container and then transplant.

this was one of my first purchases from american meadows as we had an area in our backyard that needed coverage, but was on a hill and had clay soil. after trying different flowers & failing, we decided to try some wildflowers and couldn't be happier! easy maintenance & always a surprise, if you're looking for something that is guaranteed to grow with beautiful colors, this is it!

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

After recently moving in to our house, I replaced our mostly dead front yard in Las Vegas with bermuda grass around the front edges and your wildflower mix with a few cactii and other native plants intermixed further in from the driveway and street. Within a few months, our neighbors were telling us how much they loved our front yard, and some even said it was the best Las Vegas front yard that they had ever seen. Not bad going from mostly bare dirt with a few palm trees to a much complimented gorgeous yard in a few months!!!!!! The only problem was that later in the year a few of the flower types reached 4-8 feet in height, not exactly what I was looking for as they obscurred my much shorter native plant shrubs. Now I know that I need to weed out or prune back some of those more aggressive plants.

Oh, we're starting to get a second crop of wildflowers. Hopefully they will bloom before we get any frost.

We live at 6,300 ft outside of Reno, NV. 'tilled our old wildflower patch and put down this seed as instructed. Fairly rapid growth/bloom. We will see how it does next spring following our usually heavy snowfall.

I was skeptical growing these seeds in hot Los Angeles. The color display was gorgeous. New stunning plants kept coming to delight the eye with a final bang of giant multi-trunked giant sunflowers. The birds, bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and grasshoppers all enjoyed this home. Can't wait to plant again next year.

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I have a side yard at my house that for years just had weeds and gopher holes, about 1000 sq.ft.
I live in a hilly location and didn't think there was much I could do with this area as its raised about 16 inches from the rest of the yard making it difficult to get a lawn mower up to. After a little research on line I found out it was easy to remedy the gopher problem with just a couple inexpensive traps. Then, early last March I tilled the soil by hand and planted 4 different varieties of wildflowers suitable for my zone 10, about 1 1/4 lbs. of seed. The result was spectacular, some diligent watering the first 2 months and now I have a full garden of wildflowers. Extremely low maintenance with occasional watering as needed, no lawn to mow, and just gorgeous. I've only had to reset traps once in the last 3 months.

It is very very dry here in NM and I was persistent in watering and go exactly by the directions provided. If not this year, then next year I expect to see growth. I'm being optimistic.

I bought several wildflower mixes (including this one) to choke out the tumble weed and goat-heads that had taken over my garden area last few years. They are doing a great job and re-seeding, which is fantastic. I really like the look of the wildflowers so I'll be devoting an area to them once the garden gets going.

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

We live at about 3500' in the mountains of San Diego County, a thriving center of 260 people called Sunshine Summit. These seeds seem to thrive well up here even on our meager rainfall 10 to 15" a year. We get snow several times a year, but these seeds always seem to pop up and reseed the next year. In a dry mountain area like ours, it's refreshing to see a riot of color at our place compared to the surrounding area.

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I bought several lbs of the wildflower mix and gave them to my brother in law who owns a farm. He planted them all along the boarder of his outdoor living area. You can not believe the fantastic show!! The fragrance in the evening is outrageous. He recieves all the compliments and I get all the credit. We have just purchased a small farm with a partner. Our partner wants several lbs of seed after seeing the fantastic show at my brother-in laws farm. I am also ready to plant and out do the compition. The great thing of it all is these seeds are growing in the Middle East. In Kuwait! people have never seen anything like it and the have been coming back every season now for three years straight. I highly recomend wildflower seeds as they are easy to plant and the reward is so great.

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

I planted these seeds in the late fall, and covered with just a bit of soil,(to keep the birds at bay.) I put them in my small "wildflower garden," in the middle of the back yard.
So far, so good. I think I spread them a bit heavy, as they're so thick coming up that I'm hoping they have room to grow. Most haven't started blooming yet, but I'm looking forward to a riot of color this summer!

I planted the seeds by scattering them and then walking on them. Waited. Then, when weather was right, a steady bloom of brightly colored flowers continued to bloom all spring and summer -- even into the fall and winter. Some resprouted the next spring. It is best to keep the birds away.

Comments about American Meadows Southwest Wildflower Seed Mix:

Wonderful Product. "Save the Species". You hear so often how native animals and insects are vanishing. Well I suppose it to be because Genetic Grass and fertilizer are not attractive for them. Since we have planted "Native" we have gotten back species of bird and insect not seen in years, it is wonderful. The seed quality and the ease of which everything reseeds year after year is top notch. We plant in fall for best results. Our altitude is 2500' so we do get snow flurries in winter. If you want to make a possitive change to your local Ecosystem, Put away the herbacides and insectacides and plant "American Meadows" native seeds.
