Description

Wildflower Seed Mix to plant now.
Customers have asked for it, and here it is: A mixture specially formulated for late spring or summer planting. All you have to do is get it into the ground and be sure to keep it watered until the seedlings are about 10" tall. You'll have great bloom in just a few weeks, and it won't stop until frost.

The 22 quick and long-blooming annuals in the mix include Red Poppy, Cosmos, Cornflower, Baby's Breath, and Sunflower. The mix also includes Purple Coneflower, Sweet William, and Lanceleaf Coreopsis for second year bloom. This is a mixture absolutely packed with color, and at these prices, it's so easy to fill in wherever you still need bloom for summer and fall--along walks, between perennials, in front of shrubs--anywhere--not to mention armloads of cut flowers all season long. I have 5 acres that I don't want to mow, so I am turning as much property into meadow as I can. I've been purchasing seed from American Meadows for some time now, and know I can rely on getting a good, easy-to-grow product. They are also wonderful forage for my honey bees! I am unable to post a photo because although these plants were doing great, Hurricane Irene came through and we got flooded with 3 feet of marsh water. But I can already see little green beginnings reinstating themselves. Wonderful, reliable seeds.

I wanted to review again to add some more pictures of how this wonderful mix changed over the seasons. Sadly, the summer bloom this second year is not as I'd hoped. Pretty barren, in fact. I did plant in a very small area and it's possible they couldn't reseed well there.
I tossed what was left my seed from last year into a strip in front of the veggie garden (Again, just scattered over the gladioli bulbs) to kind of hide the 'ugly' garden from the street. It makes a fabulous screen and is just full of butterflies and ladybugs, too! SOOO disappointed that I didn't order in time this year to get more.

I casually tossed this seed over a prepared bed with some gladiolus bulbs planted in it, hoping for some color while waiting for the bulbs to grow. Then ignored the whole mess for several weeks while my husband was recovering from surgery.
One day, I looked out and realized that the gladiolus are nearly 3 feet high, and the wildflowers cover the entire bed like a glorious blanket woven of white, purple and gold, spilling over brick edging! Now a formerly ugly strip beside our driveway has the neighbors stopping to gawk!
Simply awesome! I can't wait to see what it does next summer!
