These are the sometimes hard-to-find old barnyard favorites, the singles. Many people prefer them over the fluffy powder-puff-like doubles now so popular in gardens. With very showy colors, these old plants make a big show used in a meadow or as a screen. They are biennial, so bloom their second year.

Comments about American Meadows Hollyhock Seeds:

I love Hollyhocks and these grew and bloomed perfectly. I even had one precocious plant bloom the first year. My only complaint is that the Japanese Beetles love them, so they look pretty for about a week after blooming until the Beetles swarm in and eat them. I haven't tried any means of pest control, but will have to if I decide to grow these again. The beetles leave all of the other plants alone, then once they eat the hollyhocks they disappear. so I guess if you wanted to protect your other plants you could use the hollyhocks as a decoy. haha!

      Slow to grow!

Comments about American Meadows Hollyhock Seeds:

I live in the High Desert area of California and have seen plenty of Holly Hocks growing in my neighborhood to over 6feet. So far my seeds have no more that 6 inches of growth! They have plenty of water and light and were planted with Miracle grow soil added to my own. I wasn't expecting blooms this year but I wonder if I will get any next year at this rate.

Comments about American Meadows Hollyhock Seeds:

These hollyhock seeds were extremely healthy, all came up the first year. Even after a severely cold winter for our area, they have popped their heads out once again! I can't wait to see their beautiful blooms this year for the first time.
Thank you American Meadows for giving back to me, my Grandma's favorite garden flower.

        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
