Description
With a flower that looks a lot like a large, pink black-eyed susan, purple coneflower has always been a star in plains plantings. It is tough, great for cutting, and one of our most beautiful native wildflowers. Once plants with their dark green, deeply-veined leaves are established, it can be the most important color-maker in a mature meadow in mid-season. But today, it has even further importance. Under its botanical genus name, Echinacea, it has gained worldwide popularity as the No. 1 herbal medicinal. Long a favorite of Native Americans in treating snakebite, echinacea today is used in tablet and other forms to ward off colds and flus, and even to support the immune system. Millions of Americans now take pills or potions containing echinacea daily. (Medicine is made from all parts of the plant, but most important are the thick black rootstocks, which are ground up for processing.)

Easy to seed. Added in with large bag of wildflower seed mix. Planting large areas for bees and to cut down on mowing time.

Still waiting for results. Not sure the plants coming up are these coneflowers in the place I planted them. Watching them to identify.

Great plant coverage during the first year. My wife and I look forward to great blossoms in the second year based on strong plant coverage. Looks like the makings of a "killer" wild flower meadow!

Comments about American Meadows Purple Coneflower Seeds:

I planted several pounds of Purple Coneflower in an area that was loamy clay soil subject to harsh conditions during the winter and summer near a bluff area that extended from my back yard down to a river. This area has its own little micro climate and these plants perform unbelivabley in this environment. After three years the area (about 1.5 acres) is now covered in purple coneflowers. Not only is it gorgous to to look at but it attracts bees & benficial insects in the summer and numerous migratory birds come through headed south (such as golden finches) also feed off seed heads year after year.
