Description
This is the well-loved poppy of Flanders Fields. Also known as Corn Poppy and Flanders Poppy, this species is the symbol of the American Legion. It creates an absolute vision of beauty in full bloom when the lipstick red poppies carpet a whole field, nodding in the breeze. The most famous poem of World War I begins, “In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow, among the crosses row on row.” A great growth of this species after WWI finally ended, attached the lovely red flower to that war and its veterans forever. Today, red poppy is probably the world’s most popular wildflower, and is available in the pure red strain as described here or in the more popular mixed color form. See P. rhoeas, Red Poppy (red, pinks, doubles).

Our wildflower garden is magical. The abundance of flowers that just show up all summer are incredible. The poppies are my personal favorite.I had never seen anything like it before. We recommend American Meadows to everyone because after you prepare the soil and get them planted, they basically take care of themselves and paint a rainbow in your yard for Spring and Summer. Most of the wildflowers are great as cut flowers, but the poppy is not. That is the poppy's ONLY flaw.

NONE of my seeds sprouted; this was likely my fault. I hand-broadcast them in the early spring in a wild meadow. Heavy rains ensued after that in southern Missouri. The ground was unprepared, but I wanted to see how they would do on their own, as nature intended. The heavy rains may have washed them all away. I will just have to try again.

Comments about American Meadows Red Poppy Seeds:

I scattered them and then ignored them. They came up densely. We were treated to a delightful blanket of red, which last for quite awhile. They reminded me of the poppy fields of "The Wizard of Oz." Thanks!

Shirley mix poppies that I planted 3 years ago are still coming up @ the edges of the garage. Last years seeds were orange not red; my neighbor mowed them down but they bloomed anyway all summer long. Poppies are hard to get started; must be kept moist but they bloom all summer and are so delicate and lovely. All the neighbors loved them.

The flowers were truely beautiful, but there were few of them, they didnt last very long, and they were too low growing to be seen among the other flowers in the meadow that were supposed to be similar in height.

I had this hill of dirt along my driveway that I didn't know what to do with. I decided rather than have grass I'd have to mow, that I'd throw some seeds down. These poppies grew quickly and once they bloomed, I had an explosion of color. This took little effort and I got big result!

Comments about American Meadows Red Poppy Seeds:

I am a person who likes to work outside and in gardens, my own and helping out my friends. I volunteer at a Veteran's Memorial Garden I feel this is a great honor. I am always looking for new and interesting plantings to go with our perennials and annuals. This past fall I wanted to plant poppies and found the seeds for all red poppies on your web site and decided to order some. I am very pleased and amazed at the show of these flowers. I sowed the seeds in October and for the past week or so they have been putting a new kind of beauty to the garden. I was surprised at the various sizes of the flowers some are very small others large but they are perfect in this garden for our soldiers past and present
If I ever have the opportunity to work in another garden for veteran's or friends I will recommend this seed it not only has beautiful flowers but lovely green foliage
I have shared my seeds with friends who also want them in their gardens
                                  Thank You

Since they are barely out of the ground I can't testify about this product, however, I am hoping for a wonderful display. I have called and emailed several times with questions and have received helpful responses each time. I[...]knowledgeable staff.

Comments about American Meadows Red Poppy Seeds:

Our wildflower garden is magical. The abundance of flowers that just show up all summer are incredible. The poppies are my personal favorite.I had never seen anything like it before. We recommend American Meadows to everyone because after you prepare the soil and get them planted, they basically take care of themselves and paint a rainbow in your yard for Spring and Summer. Most of the wildflowers are great as cut flowers, but the poppy is not. That is the poppy's ONLY flaw.
