Out of a whole bag of seeds, less than a dozen plants came up. I was extremely disappointed. I even planted seeds at different times.

Comments about American Meadows Rocket Larkspur Seeds:

First off, I have horrible clay soil, so I tend to look for flowers that thrive in poor conditions and require little maintenance. These little flowers germinated, grew and bloomed. However, the flowers were small and I had trouble with the leaves turning a brownish color. They ended up looking unsightly and weedy. They may do better in a mass container planting where it would be easy to pinch off the brown leaves and control growing conditions. They were too finicky for my wildflower bed, though.

I planted these in the spring of 2010 and was disappointed that they didn't seem to germinate, so I was surprised this year (2011) to see the vivid purple flowers (with the occasional white or pink) emerge in early summer. The stunning display they gave me was enough for me to forgive them for being a year late and I will be buying more. I'm going to try planting them in the fall to see if that helps them germinate on time.

Comments about American Meadows Rocket Larkspur Seeds:

I have planted Larkspur for a couple of years now, and each time the seeds grow into beautiful plants. I live in Zone 7 (Texas) and put out the seeds in early fall, cover them with a thin layer of dirt and water them daily for a week or so. In winter (January) 3-5 inch plants are showing, which then bloom in late Spring, early Summer. To have more blooms over a longer period of time, I also put out seeds in early Spring, using the same procedure as described above. I have an entire field of blue in my front lawn, which then lasts for months, and it's absolutely stunning. Each year, I tend to cut off the spent flowers (to make the garden look nicer), but, of course, this prevents them from re-seeding. If you can resist doing this, you shouldn't have to reorder seeds in the future, or only to fill in areas that are sparse.
