Description
With huge flowers (often 10 or 12" inches across) these garden giants are hybrids developed for seed production (Sunflower oil, bird seed, etc.) But we've had so many requests for them, we now have them available for meadow planting. Remember, these are the ones that grow from 8 to a whopping 12 ft. tall, so unless you're planting them alone, scatter them throughout your meadow, or use them as a background screen. Kids love watching them grow so fast and so tall, and of course, they're magnets for songbirds. Enjoy!

Comments about American Meadows Sunflower Seeds Mammoth Grey Stripe:

I bought 5 lbs. of seeds for use as decoration on the campground that my family owns and operates. I used aprox. 3 lbs. along a retaining wall for a swim lake that also borders the adjacent property. The others I used in front of a barn for decor. The results were varied to say the least. All of the seeds planted seemed to sprout with no problem at all. All were evenly spaced in rows where planted. Along the side of the barn I had excellent results with the seeds. almost every plant reached between 8-10 feet with blooms of almost a foot in width.(Until a thunderstorm destroyed them... but they looked great and I still harvested the seeds) However, the ones along the bank of the pond took twice as long to grow. Some of them never grew higher than two feet while some reached 7 feet. The blooms weren't nearly as impressive. All in all I would purchase again and most likely will for the 2011 season.

Comments about American Meadows Sunflower Seeds Mammoth Grey Stripe:

Very easy to grow but very beautiful too! They are great for kids because of how high and big they get, but also because of how easy(kids like to watch plants grow but wont help take care of them normaly) they are to take care of! I have a big open field in my backyard that overlooks a large home that can see everything we do, so we also planted them to block the other houses view! The seeds taste great rosted with salt! They makes songbirds come in flocks:)! A big problem is that bids and pests will eat them none stop, put cheese cloth or nylon sock over the head of the plant to prevent this! If you do want to eat the seeds cut the head off(You need a tall guy to reach the head normaly, they get to 12ft. sometimes) then let them dry for a couple of days, then hit the back with a hammer or rub two heads! I would give them a 6 out of 5 just because of how they look and grow overall!
