by Amanda
For gardeners in the northern regions of the country, now is the time to sow your wildflowers! I garden in a zone 5 and just finished planting all of my fall bulbs. This weekend I am going to finish the process by sprinkling our All Annual Mixture on top of the bed. The wildflower mixture is designed to bloom all spring through summer and will be a lovely accompaniment to the blooming of the tulips, daffodils, crocus, and allium.

[caption id="attachment_3435" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="All Annual Mixture"][/caption]

We are frequently asked when the best time to plant in the fall is. Our general rule is to plant after you have had a couple of killing frosts and the ground is cold enough that the seed will not get the chance to germinate until spring. In Vermont we have had several killing frosts and even though we have had a wonderfully warm week, the ground temperature is around 40 degrees. This means it’s time to sow wildflowers!

We have an abundance of wildflower planting information and if you ever have questions, read our Wildflower Planting Guides. You can also chat live with The Seed Man by going to any of our wildflower pages. Remember, fall is for planting wildflowers and for all of you in the north – now is the time!

Happy Gardening!
