USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

The Buzz And Flutter Pollinator Pre-Planned Garden has plenty of visual interest, thanks to varied textures and saturated colors in the flowers, foliage, and grass, and the many winged visitors they attract. The backbone of this garden is the tall Plump And Plentiful Amethyst Beautyberry, providing attractive habitat and food for birds. Blooms start with the soft pink of American Dream Coreopsis in early spring. The Buzz And Flutter Garden bursts with long lasting color in midsummer, with magento-purple Nicky Phlox, red Dragon's Blood Sedum, Blue Jean Baby Russian Sage, Buzz® Ivory Butterfly Bush, Longwood Blue Bluebeard, and American Goldrush Black Eyed Susan blooming through late summer/fall. In late summer, see more pastel-pink blooms and bumblebees happily buzzing away on KICKIN® Pink Chiffon Aster and crisp double white flowers of Anemone Whirlwind. This garden will keep pollinators nourished from mid spring all the way to fall.  For blooms all season long, pair with spring blooming bulbs or early blooming, low-growing annual wildflower mix. Plant this sun-loving garden in full sun (6-12 hours per day).
