USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
2021 Perennial Plant of the Year! Forming a dense, spreading mound of tiny leaves with pretty white blooms, Calamintha offers a cooing foil for more vibrant-hued flowers and blends beautifully with pastel blooms a serene, rejuvenating garden. Allow the plants to drape gracefully over the edges of planters, rock walls, and retaining walls to soften the look. An ideal plant for the herb garden, Calamintha has fragrant foliage that releases a sweet minty scent with herbaceous and fruity undertones when the leaves are brushed against or crushed. Easy to grow, reliable, and versatile, Calamintha is ideal for edging walkways, and it makes a lovely, pollinator-friendly, no-mow ground cover. Also known as Lesser Calamint, this versatile plant is deer resistant and an attractive filler in cut flower arrangements. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Hardy in zones 5-7, it appreciates afternoon shade in hot-summer regions.
