Plump and Plentiful™ 'Amethyst' Beautyberry delivers on its name. Starting in September, the plant is covered in large clusters of bright-purple berries that persist from late fall into early winter. Branches are excellent for cut flower arrangements. Delicate pinkish-purple flowers line the branches in summer. Great as garden specimens, foundation plantings, and in island beds. (Callicarpa)
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
3-4' tall x 4-6' wide. Plump And Plentiful™ 'Amethyst' Beautyberry adds multi-season color and interest to borders, cutting gardens, and foundation plantings. Selected for its prolific fruit display, the plant also showcases attractive foliage and delicate flowers during the summer. Truly outstanding garden performer. Hardy in zones 5-9, with some plants dying back to the ground colder areas of zones 5-6. Prune in late winter or early spring to control size and shape. Provides mid-winter food for wildlife. Easy to grow in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained soils. Not prone to insect or disease problems.
