Switchgrass
Plant prairie native Switchgrass for tall columns of late-season color
Native to North America, Switchgrass is a stiff, upright grass that serves as valuable habitat to songbirds and other wildlife. A warm-season grass, it starts growing in late spring, fills out in summer, and then begins to shift and change hues in autumn before settling into a golden-straw color for the length of winter. Switchgrass isn't picky about the quality of your soil and doesn't require fertilizing or need much attention once planted.
