Dig In: An Employee's Spring-Blooming Garden Success

Mixed daffodil and tulips

Erin, a longtime American Meadows employee and a certified Master Gardener, purchased a house several years ago. She has gorgeous tuplip and daffodil plantings at her house! Take a look at some planting tips to create a beautiful spring garden like this at your home.

After a summer full of beautiful Dahlias, Erin and her family decided to dig the tubers up, to save and store for them for planting the next year.

However, they were then left with an empty garden bed! So, they decided to plant the Darwin Tulip Mix and the Large Cupped Daffodil Mix. They were looking to create a dramatic, colorful garden to fill the bed in Spring, before it was time to plant Dahlias.

How This Look Was Achieved

They removed the top few inches of soil in a wide, shallow trench. Then, they laid out the Tulip and Daffodil bulbs. They planted nine tulips per square foot, and six daffodils per square foot, alternating them so they’d all be mixed together. After all was said and done, they planted over 350 bulbs!

Once the weather started to warm up, the Tulips and Daffodils started popping up. The entire family was impressed by the display they created.
