'Emily McKenzie' Crocosmia is a versatile, showy plant that boasts unique, bi-color blooms in fiery shades of red and orange. A low-fuss bloomer after its been established, this captivating beauty thrives in full sun to partial shade and is deer resistant. (Crocosmia)
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Emily Mckenzie is a butterfly magnet and makes fabulous, unique summer bouquets. A must-have in any summer garden!
Crocosmias are wildflowers in South Africa, and there are many species. Unlike the fire engine-red blooms of the common Crocosmia, George Davison boasts gorgeous, butter yellow blooms. Try planting both varieties together for a stunning, contrasting display of color. As a general rule, remember when planting Crocosmia bulbs, that these flowers are used to hot sun and gritty, fast-draining soil.
