Bishop of Llandaff Peony Flowering Dahlia is a striking variety used in gardens all over the world. This dahlia is the winner of an RHS Award of Garden Merit for its excellent habit, refined foliage, and stunning scarlet blooms, with single open-face flowers that are highly appealing to pollinators. Bishop of Llandaff features unusual deep plum-colored foliage for added interest, and doesn’t require the staking that larger dahlias need.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once it begins to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired.
