Plant Information

This is the white version of our famous plains native called Purple Coneflower, but better known today by its botanical name: Echinacea.

For years before it was a favorite of the herbal medicine industry, it was always one of the loveliest wildflowers on the plains.

This large pink-to-purple daisy is a mainstay of all well-grown wildflower meadows, and is also a major colormaker in perennial borders.

You can easily grow the standard version of this great native plant from our seed (See our Wildflower Seed Department) but to save a year or more, and enjoy the hybrid forms, its really easy to plug in these plants.

Comments about American Meadows Echinacea White Swan:

I have ordered this swan variety and the regular purple one. Both plants arrived very small, but the white variety one was super tiny. I planted them immediately. The white one struggled a lot and eventually died. The purple one is growing slowly and has one flower bud. I was very excited about the white color and it makes me sad that it never grew and just died.

Comments about American Meadows Echinacea White Swan:

I love this bright white, long blooming plant. It brings the contrast and fresh look of daisies without the constant dead-heading. Our summer temperatures often hit 100 degrees and they perform without a hitch. We also dip into the 20 degrees in winter and they survive just fine. These are garden winners!

              Q & A

              Plant With These:

              USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

              • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
              • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
