Pink Beauty Caladium provides plenty of contrast and season-long color. Mottled foliage is splashed in bubble gum pink and vibrant green, with dark pink veins accenting each heart-shaped leaf. Caladiums add a touch of the tropics to shaded gardens, outdoor patios, and container gardens where they look striking planted in groups. Caladiums can also be grown as houseplants.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Beautiful Caladiums are native to the rainforests of South America, where they grow in the shade on the forest floor and along riverbeds. With brilliant colors and large heart-shaped leaves, they've become favorites of gardeners looking for season-long color and a tropical touch for shaded areas, patios, and porches. Caladiums are perennial in zones 9-10; In colder zones (3-8) they can be grown as annuals or brought indoors for the winter. They're very easy to grow, but they need warm soil, so start bulbs indoors or plant outside once soil temperatures have warmed in your area. (Planting in cold soil will stunt your Caladiums). The interesting foliage of Caladiums is great for favorites for pots, baskets, and patio planters, and planting in pots makes it easy to bring them inside for the winter. Caladiums are also popular houseplants and can be grown in large containers with plenty of water and added humidity.
