‘Captain Violetta’ Calla Lily charms with violet-pink cones that are touchably soft and temptingly exotic! As a cut flower, ‘Captain Violetta’ is a favorite of florists and home gardeners alike, with several flowers growing from each rhizome for summer blooms. These deer-resistant flowers and deep green foliage are particularly well suited to container culture, or near water features to match their love of moisture and rich soil. Let the soft violet cones of ‘Captain Violetta’ Calla Lily bring easy elegance to your early summer garden and flower bouquets! (Zantedeschia)
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
(16-26” tall x 12-18” wide) Adding drama and flair to your garden beds and containers, ‘Captain Violetta’ Calla Lily is much-used flower in professional and home arrangements. Deep green foliage is spotted with white, and emerges from spring planted rhizomes as temperatures rise in spring. In mid summer, beautiful half-cones of violet-pink unfurl around a light yellow spadix. Plant rhizomes in late spring after danger of frost has passed, and strong, white-spotted foliage will emerge as temperatures rise. Calla lilies prefer shelter from afternoon sun, which can burn the foliage. In hot climates or where beds are dry, the plant will die back and go dormant after flowering. In cooler climates, lift the rhizomes in fall and keep dry and cool in a dark basement or garage for planting out again next spring. Callas are seldom severely damaged by deer in the landscape.
