USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

(18-48" tall) The vibrant blooms in fiery hues of orange, red, and raspberry in our Evening Glow Dahlia Collection will set your garden ablaze with color. The lush flowers of 'Kogana Fubuki' Semi Dinner Plate Dahlia bloom yellow in the center and transitions to pink towards the outer petals. Softly spiked 'Karma Corona' Cactus Dahlias in peach and mango hues with a hint of violet at the tips. 'Myrtle's Folly' Dahlia's stunning blooms feature twisted petals in summery sherbet shades of raspberry, yellow, and orange. Stunning in their perfect symmetry, 'Golden Sceptor' Pompon Dahlia's 2" flowers set the garden ablaze with their sun-kissed yellow hue. Dahlias are deer-resistant and attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Although grown as an annual in zones 3-7, you can dig up Dahlia tubers at the end of the season, store them indoors, and replant in spring, making them a wise investment.
