USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

'Happy Single® Kiss' Single Dahlia is a blended masterpiece of compact form, gorgeous color, and pollinator power. Dahlias in the Happy Single® series feature very dark foliage that contrasts with saturated flower colors to stand out in the garden. Single flowers feature broad petals around a golden yellow center, favored by bees and butterflies thanks to the easy access to nectar and pollen. Happy Single® Dahlias are compact, meaning no staking is needed, and making them a good fit for containers and small gardens. Dahlias are perennial in zones 8-10, but in cooler zones, tubers can be dug after frost comes, stored over winter, then re-planted the following spring. Grow Dahlias in a sunny spot, in average soil that drains well. Keep moisture consistent once they begin to grow and enjoy a non-stop color parade.
