Plant Information

This small but very important bulb is the landscapers dream. Every really good bulb display includes them. It's because planted close together, these little jewels create a true carpet of deep vivid blue, and are the perfect foreground contrast for almost any larger bulbs. A river of Grape Hyacinths in front of a bed of golden daffodils or red tulips makes the display twice as dramatic. Curving beds of these blue beauties are a mainstay of the famous gardens in Holland and here in our own public parks. You can easily do the same thing at home. Just plant in the Grape Hyacinths! They never disappoint.'

Grape Hyacinths have always been a favorite of mine. New home, needed new bulbs - they had lots of flowers and lasted about a month with our cool temperatures this past Spring. Have never been disappointed with bulbs from American Meadows

I love grape hyacinths

The bulbs came up as expected, very good quality. The blue is a bit less intense and the flower spikes a bit taller than expected.

Comments about American Meadows Grape Hyacinth:

I live in deer country so planting anything in the open is not an option. I wanted a little color in the front yard so rather than do a mass planting I planted only a few bulbs. A little more than two weeks, the deer ate them. I wasn't surprised. The rest I hid in bushes, fenced off areas and in pots. They survived. If there is a complaint, I got more bulbs than I knew what to do with. If I had no deer, I would have planted most of them out front.

Comments about American Meadows Grape Hyacinth:

I am in zone 6 in Utah. Our land is very clay, alkaline, and even salty at our property. It is difficult to find plants that can tolerate even after mulching well. We have a large pond nearby and wild waterbirds hang out on our property, eating plants. We are thrilled this spring at our hyacinths. They all grew. The wild ducks walked through the flower bed without nibbling, yay!

Comments about American Meadows Grape Hyacinth:

We planted these along our driveway last fall. It seems that all of the bulbs produced a flower this spring. They are some of the first flowers to bloom at our new home. They are vivid blue and healthy. So far, the deer are not interested in them. They were planted under Black Walnut trees and seem to be unaffected. Very pleased and they remind us of Grape hyacinth that we loved as children.

I was after a burst of color in early Spring and the Grape Hyacinth Bulbs delivered on their promise. Easy to plant yet exotic looking, I dug holes in clusters to create a carpet effect around a tree dish dug earlier in the season for an ornamental dogwood. Best of all, I encountered no issues with squirrels stealing nor deer eating them.

                                Plant With These:

                                USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

                                • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
                                • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
