The earliest lilies to bloom in early-to-mid summer and the easiest to grow, Asiatic Lilies are perfect for bridging the spring to summer flowering season. To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Our
long-blooming Blushing Asiatic Lilies Mix in shades of white and rosy-pink will
keep you in lilies for up to a month. The large 4-6" wide blossoms are a
favorite cut flower and they add an elegant touch to any garden. Plant in a
sunny spot (at least 6 hours of sun) among perennials where the lilies can be
supported as they grow, the flowers can soak up sunshine, and the roots can be
kept cool. Good companions are Roses, Peonies, Salvia, Veronica, and Crocosmia.
They are quite hardy once established and will multiply, providing years of
enjoyment. Try some in a container for a starry show! Plant in
compost-enriched, well-drained soil. Feed with organic fertilizer as the bulbs
sprout, and again as the flowers open. Regular watering during growth is best.
As flowers fade, remove them to avoid the formation of seedpods. Once all the
flowers have bloomed, cut the stem just below the blooms, leaving as much
foliage as possible.
