Silk Road' Orienpet Lily, sometimes called 'Friso,' is a spectacular Orienpet hybrid beloved by collectors for late-season color. The impressive attributes of 'Silk Road’ won it the North American Lily Society’s popularity poll four years in a row! Reminiscent of a bold Magnolia bloom, the gently curved downward-facing petals of each 8-inch flower have broad white edges and rose-red centers. Highly fragrant, it adds incredible drama to mid-to-late summer gardens and is a lovely addition to cut flower bouquets. (Lilium)

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
The deep green foliage of ‘Silk Road’ Orienpet Lily provides a backdrop to favorite garden flowers during the early part of the growing season; In mid-to-late summer, all eyes are on the tall, well-branched stems covered in massive rose-red and white flowers. As well as being an excellent addition to a fragrant flower garden, 'Silk Road' does beautifully in indoor arrangements. Planting the bulbs deeply at 8-9 inches deep helps anchor those long stems, but some staking may be necessary if they are not planted behind stronger shrubs that can help support their weight. Plant Orientpet Lilies in sunny soils with good fertility, and good drainage – they are intolerant of wet winter soils. Though their growing range is impressive (Zones 3-10), the bulbs often benefit from a mulch dressing at the end of the season in colder regions.
