USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

(6-40" tall) The Crown Jewels Fritillaria Bulb Collection brings exotic flair to the garden in mid-to-late spring.  Take advantage of the varying heights and plant structures to create dynamic plantings. Red and Yellow Crown Imperials make stunning focal points. Growing 2-3-feet tall, they rise above other spring bulbs to show off stunning clusters of bell-shaped blooms topped in spikey green hats. Compliment the uniquely patterned purple, white, and pink blooms of the low-growing Chequered Lily Fritillary with the dusky, plum-colored spires of Persian Lily. Or plant a layer of purple and gold Fox's Grape Fritillary beneath the towering ivory and green spikes of 'Ivory Bells' Persian Lily. The two varieties of Persian Lily look stunning when planted together or mingled among tulips for a textural contrast. Most gardeners grow Crown Imperials as annuals, however, the other fritillaria species naturalize well. Plant in well-drained soil in dappled shade to full sun.

Our Crown Jewels Fritillaria Bulb Collection is roughly 4' x 3' if planted together and contains 49 plants:

1. Chequered Lily Fritillaria Mix - 15 Bulbs

2. Red Crown Imperial - 1 Bulb

3. Yellow Crown Imperial - 1 Bulb

4. Ivory Bells Persian Lily - 1 Bulb

5. Persian Lily - 1 Bulb

6. Fox's Grape Fritillary - 30 Bulbs

*Plants are subject to change due to availability. If we make substitutions, we feature plants with similar attributes suitable to the garden/collection design.
