temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

Watsonia, also called the Bugle Lily is a South African native flower with over 50 species that grow from corms, producing slender, sword-shaped leaves and long stems that hold tubular flowers. It was named after a British botanist, Sir William Watson.
Watsonia is very easy to grow with big rewards. It’s a low maintenance plant that doesn’t need much. It thrives in hot places and requires little water. It prefers warmer zones, well drained sandy soil.
It starts growth in early spring and begins flowering in mid May thru June. After flowering the leaves and stems can be cut back. Depending on how cold the climate is, Watsonia requires some winter protection. A layer of mulch is sufficient for frost free areas. If planted in colder regions, you will want to dig the corms and store for the winter. Keep them dry and stored in a dark cool place, similar to dahlias. You can divide clumps every three to five years to prevent overcrowding.
Watsonia looks great with cannas, dahlias and ornamental grasses.
