(16-20” tall x 12-18” wide) Red Alert Calla will add something exotic and exciting to your beds, borders and containers. Its large green leaves spotted with white are fascinating in the early season. When the tender red semi-cones unfurl in mid-summer to reveal an orange spadix and mottled orange undertones, you’ll have a hard time stopping yourself from picking them for bouquets indoors. Calla Lilies are moisture lovers and appreciate a lightly shaded position that shelters them from afternoon sun. Removing the blooms after flowering (if you haven’t already cut them!) preserves the lovely foliage throughout the season, however in hot, drier climates, they may die back after flowering in preparation for winter dormancy. Try them against a water barrel, where they benefit from the splashing, near downspouts, or use them in the margins of your water feature. Striking when contrasted with variegated small grasses or Carex.
