USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information

With upright architectural foliage and saturated colors, Cannas have a bold presence that makes them popular in container plantings and a wide range of garden styles. Tall Cannas perform well in containers, bringing height and privacy to terraces and courtyards. Native to native to semi-tropical and tropical parts of North and South America and the Caribbean, Cannas have been cultivated for centuries and were one of the earliest domesticated plants in the Americas. Easy to grow and widely adaptable, they prefer rich, well-drained soil, plenty of water, and sunny locations. Deadhead plants throughout the summer to keep Cannas blooming. Cannas are hardy in zones 7-10; In cooler regions (zones 1-6), they can be grown as annuals or brought indoors over winter before the first frost.

Our Rio Tall Canna Collection includes 9 bulbs, covering 9 square feet when planted together, including the following items:

Miss Oklahoma Canna Lily - Bag of 3

Richard Wallace Canna Lily - Bag of 3

Taroudant Canna Lily - Bag of 3
