Plant Information

Edible Flower Seed Bombs will grow into dainty and delicious flowers perfect for munching, like sky-blue and cucumber-flavored Borage (Borago officinalis), tangy Cilantro (Coriandrum sativum), peppery orange and yellow Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus), and slightly spicy Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis). In areas with warm summers, plant seed bombs in early to mid-spring. In colder parts of the country, plant after last freeze date. Edible flowers like rich, well-drained soil, so add compost or manure to your soil before burying seed bombs halfway. Keep plants well watered as they grow, and you’ll soon have a delectable harvest of blossoms for ice cube trays, dessert decorations and salad toppers. Two one-inch Edible Flower Seed Bombs can plant one square foot, or use more for a dense planting.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
