Midnight Rose' Coral Bells is characterized by its contrast, color and vigor. The rich, plum-black foliage of this lovely Heuchera is spotted with deep pink tones that fade to ivory cream as the season progresses. Tiny salmon-colored flowers are held above the foliage in late spring. Heuchera 'Midnight Rose' is a terrific choice for part-shade gardens, but it also does well in sunny positions. Plant in rich, well-drained soil in part shade to sun. Great for containers. (Heuchera)

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
(12-24" tall x 8-12" wide) The beautiful mounding foliage of award-winning 'Midnight Rose' Coral Bells not only stands up to heat and humidity, it also adds terrific contrast to your planting schemes. The dark, nearly black, lobed leaves are dappled with hot pink which gradually fades into cream as the season wears on. Flowers are tiny, salmon-colored and held above the foliage by wire-like stems. Heuchera are excellent container plants, and their relative hardiness means that many gardeners can leave them in those containers all year long, changing out annual companions for variety and adding new compost as a top dressing. Use them to accentuate the edges of shadier garden beds with favorites like Hosta and Carex. 'Midnight Rose' Coral Bells can tolerate sunny spots, but in hot summer areas prefers protection from afternoon sun, which can burn the leaves. Aim for a site with plenty of morning sun and a well-drained soil which never gets boggy. Heuchera is seldom damaged by deer.
