(24-36" tall) 'Jowey Nicky' Ball Dahlia seems almost lit from within as its petals glow with warm peach shades in a lovely ball-shaped form. A perfect complement for other summer bloomers such as roses, asters, Solidago, and of course other Dahlias, their tidy form adds a unique element to the summer-to-fall garden. With blossoms up to 4 inches across, they make a beautiful addition to cut flower arrangements. Plant the tubers in a sunny spot in average, well-drained soil when the soil has warmed in the spring. Try some in containers where their bouncy demeanor is sure to bring smiles. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers and pinch off small side buds to encourage larger flowers if desired. This easy-to-grow Dahlia is perennial in zones 8-10. In cooler zones, they may be dug and stored in a cool, dark place after the first frost, then re-planted the following spring. The name Jowey is a hybrid of the first and last name of the European breeder who has developed many of the best Ball Dahlia, Jozef Weyts.
