(48-60’’ tall x 24” wide) Bohemian Spartacus Dahlia truly lives up to its unusual name! A sport of the popular red dinnerplate dahlia, ‘Spartacus,’ its fun, wavy petals sweep backwards and are flecked with yellow just like a flowing bohemian skirt. Bohemian Spartacus Dahlia makes a great cut flower as the stems are tall and strong. Grown in a sunny, moisture retentive soil, you’ll have blossoms from mid-summer on. Choose a spot sheltered from high winds to prevent having to stake the dramatic flower heads, or plant densely with other supporting foliage such as white Echinacea or shrubs such as hydrangea. Early pinching of the growing shoots encourages branching. Deadheading spent flowers encourages a succession of blooms. Northern zones (8 and above) should lift tubers in fall and store in a frost-free location to ensure beautiful bouquets for next year!
