Plant Information

Easy-to-grow Balloon Flowers were one of grandmothers favorites. The Platycodons have been around forever, and some of their biggest fans are children. They love to watch the balloons form (the buds) and then swell each day until suddenly, one special day, the pop open. These beautiful old-fashioned flowers are lovely in the garden and fine in the vase.

Comments about American Meadows Balloon Flower Shell Pink:

Small bulbs but each one came up substantially an bloomed thruout summer. Must cut bk old blooms for continous bloom. U can also let spent blooms dry an open to get seeds. Look forward to them getting taller an larger. These r long-lived perennials. I also have grandiflora white an blue an they come up dependably every yr. Pest free an they do well even in shade.

Comments about American Meadows Balloon Flower Shell Pink:

While all of the corms looked good on arrival, and eventually became established, I was disappointed by their lack of vigor, as compared with some of the same variety that were planted by a friend nearby last year. Will transplant in the fall to another location, to seee if that makes a difference.

The roots are very good. This is a difficult to find variety and I was thrilled to find it at American Meadows. It will be lovely with my blue varieties.

          Q & A

          Plant With These:

          USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

          • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
          • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
