About the Monardas This is a hybrid of the famous American wildflower with the bright red crown-shaped flowers, a description of the large scarlet blooms everyone and every hummingbird loves.
There are other species, but our famous Monarda or Bee Balm is native from the far north all the way south to Georgia, it was first discovered by world famous plant explorer John Bartram during the colonial era. Since its a member of the mint family with fragrant foliage, Bee Balm was always a medicinal plant of the native Americans, and today adds wonderful color to perennial gardens and wildflower meadows. Its a strong-growing perennial that likes moisture, and will grow in sun or partial shade.
As with all Bee Balms, the bloom begins in mid-summer, and if you cut off spent flowers for about three weeks, you'll extend the blooming into fall.

Disappointed
South Georgia. After 5 months, the plants are quite small and never bloomed. They did grow more stems and seem healthy enough.

I used a grouping of three plants as an anchor at one corner of my new garden. I've ordered another set of three to anchor the other corner. I have a very busy bee garden!

Comments about American Meadows Blue Stocking Bee Balm:
Beautiful and fast growing. it grew to 4ft in the first year and bloomed profusely.
It did split near the end of the season so some staking may be required until it fills in heavier.

Comments about American Meadows Blue Stocking Bee Balm:
I ordered four plants, of which three of them are doing just great. However, the fourth plant that was sent to me was so disappointing, as they were just tiny strands of the root. It didn't do anything at all. After contacting your website, they put me on the list to receive this plant in the spring. I guess my best comments will be after I receive the new plant. As far as the other ones go,, am very pleased with them and look forward to seeing what they will do next summer.

Comments about American Meadows Blue Stocking Bee Balm:
I got these plants for a trouble part of the garden. Nothing seems to grow well, I have tried everything, but plants just seem to have a tough time growing there. I currently have a hodpoge of plant's growing to see what does best. I bought both the Bee Balm plant and the Heuchera Melting Fire from here. Both are doing great and look like they will thrive in this area. The Bee Balm did not bloom this year but looks healthy and is at least 30" tall, I will expect it to bloom next year. The Heuchera had a rough go at fist, but came back and looks great, both plant seem to be very hardy and adaptable. My plane for next year is to buy more of both, and plant where the other plants have failed.

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

Merchant response: We sincerely apologize that the Bee Balm Blue Stocking did not meet your expectations. Perennial plants such as this one spend their first year establishing their roots and foliage, and tend not to get to their full size until the second season. They also don't typically flower until their second season, but it is a very good sign that are putting up healthy foliage. We are committed to our customers success and stand behind all of our products with our one year, 100% guarantee, so please contact us if your plants don't continue to thrive in the next year. Happy Gardening!
