Northern Exposure™ 'Lime' Coral Bells is a showstopper, and the dazzle is only beginning with its citrus-hued foliage. Lemon-lime leaves light up shade and sunny gardens alike, forming low-growing mounds that complement neighboring plants. In late spring and early summer, spires of rust-red bell-shaped blooms add to the show, floating on wiry stems to attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. This knockout perennial is exceptionally cold hardy, too. (Heuchera)

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Plant Information
Northern Exposure™ 'Lime' Coral Bells (PP#029162) features lime green scalloped leaves forming tidy mounds, complemented by spires of tiny, rust-red flowers in late spring. The Northern Exposure™ series of Coral Bells (Heuchera) was bred and named for exceptional cold hardiness and a terrific resistance to rust.
Preferring part shade to full shade, Coral Bells are ideal for adding color to shady borders and woodland gardens. These compact plants are ideal along walkways, as groundcover in the front of a garden border, and they thrive as filler plants in containers where you can enjoy their beauty up close. They can tolerate sunny spots, but in areas with very hot summers, they will need protection from afternoon sun, which can burn the leaves; they perform best in a site with morning sun and well-drained soil that never gets boggy. Coral Bells are also well-suited to containers, where the mounding foliage and flower spikes add filler and a bit of thrill. Heucheras are native to the eastern half of the U.S., and this beauty is one of the many cultivars created from the native species.
