Guardian Blue Delphinium produces tall dark blue, purple spike blossoms. Part of the Guardian series which were bred for uniform flowers and early blossoms. These re-bloomers will bloom in early to mid-summer and continue if the growing season is long enough and they have been trimmed back in time to grow again. Plant in the back of the garden and stake if not protected from the wind for best results. To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Choose the right spot.This is important. These plants need excellent well-drained soil, rich in humus. And maybe even more important, they need some protection from the wind and rain. Blowing wind and rain can ruin them, just when you're expecting the big bloom. Don't let that happen. Choose some spot with something behind them--a wall, a tall strong plant, something.

Delphiniums can grow in warmer zones above 7 if protected from hot sunlight and have shaded soil. In zone 8, you can grow Delphiniums, but they will be short-lived.
