Expansive ‘Krossa Regal’ Hosta features deeply veined, frosty blue-green leaves on upright stems. The vase-like arching foliage rises to 3-4 feet tall, commanding attention and adding elegance to shade gardens. The large size makes this a good background for colorful low-growing shade plants. Pale purple flowers bloom atop 4-to-6-foot tall scapes in mid-to-late summer, attracting songbirds and hummingbirds. This spectacular Hosta is a recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. (Hosta x ‘Regal Hosta’)
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
At 3-4 feet tall and 3-6 feet wide, ‘Krossa Regal’ Hosta is the perfect choice for striking presence. This hosta is a natural focal point. Easy to grow, plant it in a part-shade to full-shade location in compost-enriched, well-drained soil with average moisture. Protect it from wind. ‘Krossa Regal’ is a slug-resistant superstar. In late summer, its light purple flowers will attract pollinators. Cut them back after flowering to encourage plant growth. Native to Northeast Asia, easy-to-grow Hostas have found a welcome place in shade gardens all over the world. Divide in early spring or late summer if desired. Toxic to pets if ingested.
