Iris

Distinctive, showy flowers are deer-resistant and easy to grow

With outer petals called 'falls' and inner petals called 'standards', Irises come in a huge variety of colors and styles. Bearded or German Irises are spectacular with their soft, fuzzy falls - but don't let them distract you from the others. The Siberians are just as easy, with even more flowers. The Japanese are incredibly beautiful, and don't need constant water to do well. The Louisianas are native to North America with huge flowers and stunning colors. These summer bloomers all combine beautifully with other perennials, and many will even share a second set of blooms later in the season.
