Plant Information

24-36" tall x 18" wide. Ruffled sky blue flowers wave in the mid-season garden, brightening the perennial bed with impossible color. This stately Bearded Iris makes a perfect backdrop for your garden bed or perennial border. Plant the rhizomes in well-drained garden soil in a full sun to partial shade location, at least 5-6 weeks before freezing so that they can root well before frost. ‘Astro Blue’ is deer and rodent resistant and produces 8-9 showy blooms per stalk. Easy care, just fertilize with an organic bulb food in the spring and with bone meal in the fall, for years of low-maintenance garden color.

Q & A

Plant With These:

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
