To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Iris stuns with violet laced white falls (outer petals) capped by grey-white
standards (upper petals). Try it in a rock garden, near an entrance, or any
spot that could use a lift. Blooming in mid spring, this award-winning
perennial adds a calming presence to your landscape. With a height of 36", they are lovely with Peonies, Catmint, Salvia, and
Allium. The vertical, green foliage adds interest as well. Plant it in enriched
garden soil in a sunny location. Plant the rhizomes when you receive them with
the top of the rhizome just above the soil line. Keep soil moist as the plant
establishes, once established 'Haunted Heart' is a drought-tolerant,
easy-to-grow perennial.
